As of today, the acting head of ICE Todd Lyons has been hospitalized twice due to stress-related issues related to carrying out President Donald Trump’s aggressive immigration agenda, which is to deport 3,000 immigrants a day. With the Senate refusing to fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border protection, describing it as a “joke,” it is no wonder that Lyons is receiving such pressure resulting in medical consequences.

This is not the first time that Lyons required medical attention due to stress. In December, Lyons was driven by security to a hospital in Washington, where he was admitted overnight. A similar incident occurred in September as well. In the summer in Los Angeles, Lyons was on the hunt for a migrant on their target list with several ICE agents and top administration officials participating. They could not find the migrant they were targeting, and as a result Lyons got so stressed that he required a portable defibrillator from a nearby government office to Lyons in case he needed medical intervention. Current and former officials describe Lyons as breaking out into a full sweat, with his face turning deep red.

Although many reasons could have resulted in Lyons’s hospitalization, one large contributor to the medical case is Trump’s deputy chief of staff, Stephen Miller, who conducted “passionate” morning phone calls with Todd Lyons on various accounts. Many officials supported Miller’s stance, as they claimed that Lyons struggled to make decisions that were necessary as director. However, Lauren Bis, a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, stated that Lyons “has a great relationship with Stephen Miller and the entire White House team…Fixing the crisis caused by the previous administration of letting millions of illegal aliens into our country and jumpstarting an agency that was not allowed to do their job for four years is no easy task.” However, it seems as though Lyons is failing at his job because he has been chastised by Miller over low deportation numbers and strategic disagreements.

Todd Lyons has expressed his frustration that the White House was always mad at his agency for not living up to his expectations. However, such expectations are being furthered by Trump supporters themselves. A poll, conducted by McLaughlin & Associates, a source utilized by Trump in various elections, has found that sixty-six percent of likely 2026 voters support deporting any migrants who enter the country illegally. When asked if they support deporting all deportable migrants, not just criminals, a majority of fifty-eight percent say they do. As the White House changed their narrative on Tuesday, March 10 to emphasize deporting migrants who were violent criminals, the White House received backlash from Trump supporters with the fear that they were slowing down deportation rates. If Lyons continues to make the progress he is making now, there is no doubt that this progress fuels the frustrations of the public even more.

The issue of Todd Lyons’s stress episodes has already been eloquently addressed by the White House as “inaccurate trash”, going on to title Lyons as an “American Patriot.” Considering the fact that this administration has posted endless amounts of absurd content on social media platforms, especially X, it is difficult to believe their official claim that the reporting of Lyons’s hospitalization is “trash.” The White House’s public digital activity has been known to be extremely problematic and absurd. Therefore, it is hard to believe their comments of false reporting are accurate.
